Listen to what the experts have to say about Bishop and Eastern Sierra:

“Men’s Journal” Magazine, August, 2000, in an article entitled, “Great American Hideouts, Our 10 Favorite Towns for Holing Up and Living Right,” the article leads off, “It’s simple really, if you’re looking to get lost for a few days, for a week, for ten years - you need to head to those places that have dropped off the tourist map, spots where the forests still feel wild, the water still tastes pure, and other people still feel far, far away.” Leading the list: Bishop, California.

“American Photographer” Magazine, June 1999, in an article entitled, “The Best Places on Earth to photograph, 10 favorite destinations to explore, photography, protect,” Galen Rowell, the renowned outdoor photographer and explorer states, “I’ve been to all seven continents and both poles, and the Eastern Sierra is the most diverse place-in terms landscapes and biology of any location I’ve shot in the world. You have beautiful alpine landscapes, sand dunes, and deserts. And you have the incredible desert lake-Mono Lake.”

When coming to Bishop, allow five hours from Los Angeles, four hours from Reno and five hours from Las Vegas. There is no scheduled air service to Bishop, however you can fly in to Mammoth Lakes
